Fisher College Student Health Insurance Program

Enrollment and Eligibility

Massachusetts’ regulations state students enrolled at least 75% of full-time credits are required by law to have health insurance. To ensure compliance, all students enrolled in at least 75% of full-time credits are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan.

NOTE: ALL students enrolled at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital School of Nursing site are required to have health insurance.

Waiving the FSHIP and Important Deadline Information

If you are currently insured by a plan that provides comparable coverage, you can waive enrollment. Undergraduate and graduate students may waive the Student Health Insurance Plan by submitting an online waiver form confirming comparable coverage by the deadline. An insurance waiver must be completed at the start of each academic year.

For new eligible students attending classes in the fall, the waiver deadline is September 13, 2024. For new eligible students attending classes in the spring, the spring waiver deadline is January 22, 2025. If you miss the waiver deadline in the fall, you may not submit a waiver in the spring and you will be enrolled for the policy year. You will be responsible for 100% of the student insurance cost. Students who use their FSHIP at any point are not eligible to waive afterward.

NOTE: Waiver deadlines for students enrolled at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital School of Nursing are: Fall - July 26, 2024 and Spring - December 20, 2024.

Waive Fisher Health Insurance Plan

At the start of each academic year students may initiate the waiver process by clicking on the “I Want to Waive the Fisher College Health Insurance Plan” button below. Once you are redirected to the Gallagher Student Health website, please click on ‘I want to Waive’ on the left hand side under ‘Student Access’. Create an account if you have not already and then log in to the website with your credentials. Click on the red ‘I want to Waive’ button and submit the form. Upon submission of the form you will receive a reference number. Please keep this number for your records.

I Want to Waive the Fisher College Health Insurance Plan

Review the following guidelines before submitting a health insurance waiver:

Domestic Students

U.S. students with comparable coverage under another major medical insurance plan may submit a waiver.Students who have out of area HMOs (for example Kaiser Permanente, Empire of NY, Triple-S, and others) may not have comparable coverage as these types of plans only provide coverage for emergency care or when provided by a network of clinicians not available in the Fisher College Boston area.

International Students

International students are required to have a U.S.- based health insurance. Foreign carriers with U.S.-based satellites are still considered foreign insurance and do not qualify for the health insurance waiver.Massachusetts regulation does not consider insurance carriers outside of the United States. or coverage by a foreign national health service program comparable to a qualifying student health insurance plan (for example Tokio Marine, ISO, Triple-S, and others).
