Commuter Student Finds His Footing at Fisher College

Roberto Brizuela is a sophomore commuter student studying cybersecurity and playing for the Fisher College Men’s Volleyball team.

Roberto is from Everett, Massachusetts, and initially was uncertain about where he wanted to pursue his education. However, everything changed when he discovered Fisher College at a college fair. He recalls, “I fell in love with the school, the location, and the small classrooms.” After taking a tour of Fisher, he realized it was the perfect fit for him.

When he first arrived at Fisher, it was a bit tough because he didn’t know anyone, but he states, “Luckily I was able to meet really nice friends, talk to them, and get help from them for assignments which made the process so much easier and way more enjoyable.”

Roberto makes an effort to go out of his way and do all he can at Fisher. This semester, he signed up for the Biology and Asian Clubs as well and stated that he is going on an alternative spring break trip “I'm also doing an Alternative Spring Break trip with Fisher to Florida to rebuild houses for families.”

Roberto also spends his time at Fisher being part of the Volleyball Team. As the Libero, he shares his enthusiasm: “It's great energy, I love working for myself and for the team, the intensity is there, the ambition is there, and I see so much improvement so fast. It's a great opportunity to be part of and grow with this team. It also helped me meet people, get in shape, and stay busy.” Through this experience, Roberto has not only enhanced his skills but also built connections and maintained an active lifestyle.

Balancing various responsibilities can be quite a challenge, but Roberto has found a way to manage it. He shares his approach by saying, “What makes it easier for me is making sure to have fun while getting work done, making sure all my work is done so it weighs on my mind less. Also, every day I get a little better at it, so I just try to use each day to learn what I can do differently tomorrow.” While it’s not always easy, he embraces the journey and strives to enjoy every moment, proving that it’s possible to live life to the fullest, even with a packed schedule.

Even though he is a commuter he finds himself spending plenty of time at Fisher, his days start at 9:45 a.m. and can go until 10 p.m. Roberto loves the Fisher community, he states that there are “So many volleyball games to play, uno games to win, ice skating nights, dinners, etc. I appreciate all the people I’ve met here at Fisher and I’m looking forward to getting to know them better.”

When asked about what Roberto wants to do after graduating, he says, “My goals after graduation are to find a good job in cybersecurity and to just live comfortably. I don't need some crazy life with a lot going on to be happy. I truthfully just want to relax and have time to practice hobbies, hang out with my family, and travel.”
