CJ Major Solara Travels from Dubai to Fisher
Meet Solara Bakhit ‘28, a first-year student from Dubai majoring in criminal justice. Solara chose to attend Fisher College because of its location, opportunities, and scholarships. She states, “I really love the history of the city, especially for how great it is for living in a safe place and for the education.”
Upon her arrival at Fisher, she found the transition challenging but eventually adapted to life in Boston. Reflecting on this experience, she shares, “It was hard at first, but being able to grow and learn as an adult, especially with the friends I've made, I feel great making a life that’s mine.” When asked to elaborate on what creating a life that’s hers means, she emphasizes, “Being an adult that’s living independently, making my own money, and having my own social life along with the abilities to make my own decisions.”
Since arriving in Boston, she has learned to become a more independent individual. One key factor in her growth has been her job off campus. Despite her newfound independence, she deeply appreciates the Fisher community. What Solara loves most about it are the supportive teachers, small class sizes, and engaging student activities.
She notes, “Supportive teachers encourage me to ask questions without fear, and the small class size enhances my learning experience. The student activities on campus also play a crucial role in helping us socialize and have fun as a community.”
With all her responsibilities, Solara has learned to manage her time effectively. She states, “Being a student and working off campus is challenging, but using schedules, practicing time management, and maintaining discipline are key to becoming a well-managed and successful adult.”
Solara has come a long way from her life in Dubai and has learned to create a life of her own here in Boston. She maintains her independence with her job on Newbury Street while also enjoying her social life with friends at Fisher. When asked about her goals after graduating from Fisher, she expresses her desire to “obtain my JD at a T14 law school and become a prosecutor involved in public policy at both the city and federal levels.”
