After learning more about Fisher College and its Esports program, Jared made the decision to join the Fisher College Super Smash Bros team.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Utah Valley University, Utah native Jared Hanna hadn’t even considered pursuing a master’s degree, if only due to the cost. Little did he know his professional Super Smash Bros experience and combined interest in studies and esports would open doors he’d thought were closed, especially with tuition assistance.
After learning more about Fisher College and its Esports program, Jared made the decision to join the Fisher College Super Smash Bros team. “My scholarship allowed me to have the resources available to obtain an MBA degree that normally I wouldn’t have had the chance to complete,” he said. “Fisher College has been a wonderful experience for me. Its graduate program is challenging but helps me learn and grow. All of my professors and the Fisher College staff are helpful and knowledgeable to the point when I need a question answered or accommodation made, I receive a response the same day.”
Managing a full-time job, graduate classes, and esports involvement requires a lot of dedication and discipline. For Jared, it was an opportunity to be productive and organized to balance responsibilities.
“Mapping out time slots for certain items will help students not to feel overwhelmed,” he shared. “Knowing that I have time mapped out for each area of my life helps me get things done and not stress about a to-do list.”
Along with many esports students, both on campus and online, Jared had the opportunity to represent Fisher College during tournaments, including the LVL UP Expo in Las Vegas; the CECC Esports Championship in Arlington, Texas; the Crown III in Orem, Utah; and the most recent PAX East 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts.
“Fisher College actively supports me and all that I do as an esports athlete,” said Jared. “When I travel for events or need help with assignments, my professors are prompt in helping me manage my assignments. They are all understanding, and the esports directors stay on top of everything to set their teams up for success.”
A piece of advice Jared would offer to all Falcons is: “Make detailed schedules to stay on top of assignments and practice. Fisher College cares so much about student success, as well winning esports events. Take the time to get good grades and practice your craft.”
