Meet Carlos Rosa Colon, a sophomore at Fisher College majoring in Sport Management.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Carlos was drawn to Fisher College for its welcoming environment and close-knit community. Reflecting on his decision to attend Fisher, he shared, "The thing I liked most about Fisher’s campus was the environment here. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcomed me. Now thriving in his second year, Carlos is excited to continue making the most of his college experience, both academically and through his involvement in various activities.
Before attending Fisher College, Carlos went to high school at the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, where his coaches helped him prepare for a college routine through baseball practice and classes. Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “One thing I didn’t know how to do was go out of my way and meet new people. If there is any advice I could give any new student it would be to talk to new people if you play sports don’t just stick to the people on your team, meet different people older than you or in your class, because some of the people you meet in college will be life-long friends and you never know who may be able to help you later on in life.”
Carlos is a resident on campus here at Fisher College. During his first year, he encountered challenges like being homesick, but he slowly found his way. He shared, “There are usually some challenges at first, like dealing with homesickness or getting used to dorm life but building a routine can help with the transition. Finding a balance between studying, socializing, and taking care of yourself is key.”
Having experienced these challenges himself, Carlos decided to apply to become a Resident Assistant by the end of his first year. "I wanted to be able to help any student who has questions about the transition from high school to college and help students get through the initial feeling of being homesick. Because some students are leaving their parents’ side for the first time and that is not easy.”
Carlos is currently a member of the baseball team at Fisher College, where, like many collegiate athletes, he dedicates a significant portion of his day to the sport. Being involved in both sports and clubs has taught him the importance of time management, as he has learned to prioritize tasks. In addition to his position on the baseball team, he serves as the Vice President of the Sports Management Club, where he is responsible for organizing monthly meetings and planning activities. Reflecting on his busy schedule, Carlos shares, “It’s not easy having so many things on your plate at once, but if there’s one thing you learn when you’re busy, it’s how to manage your time properly.”
Looking ahead, Carlos is focused on making the most of his remaining time at Fisher College. With plans to double major in Sports Management and Accounting, he aims to leverage his athletic experience and strong analytical skills to pursue a career as a data analyst for Major League Baseball (MLB). As he continues to balance his commitments on the field and in the classroom. Carlos is excited to see what the next two years have in store and is ready to make lasting memories at Fisher College.
