Women's Empowerment Club Leaders

In honor of International Women's Day, we're featuring Kylie Conrado, a biology major ’26, and Ashley Baez, a business management major ‘26, the inspiring student leaders behind Fisher College's Women's Empowerment Club!

Let's jump into the Q&A to learn more about the club and how it's fostering a supportive community for women on campus.

What inspired you to create the Women's Empowerment Club?

Ashley: The idea for the club sparked during my first year at Fisher College. With encouragement from former faculty member Nephthalie Larame, I wanted to create a safe space for women at Fisher to connect, share experiences, and uplift each other.

What role do student-led groups like yours play in creating positive change?

Kylie: Groups like ours show others that anything is possible! We hope to inspire people to pursue their passions and create positive change on campus.

Can you describe some of the club's activities and events?

Ashley: We meet on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 PM in room 118-35. We host various events, including collaborating with the Power of Happy Hour mental health club to bring mental health speakers to Fisher. We also organize trips to support Black-owned businesses and have plans for Women's History Month!

How has the club impacted the Fisher College community?

Kylie: We strive to create a safe space for women and raise awareness about the challenges women face globally, like the lack of equal opportunities.

Have you seen examples of the club empowering individual members?

Kylie: Absolutely! I, myself, was empowered to join Student Government after being a club member and now I’m vice president of both this club and SGA. The club has helped me become more outgoing. Another member, Karla, shared how the club encouraged her to embrace her power as a woman.

How will the club celebrate Women's History Month?

Ashley: We'll visit women-owned businesses and host a talk with Lilly Tapper, owner of Three Hundred Fifty Bakery. She'll share her experience as a young woman entrepreneur.

Who are some women who inspire you?

Kylie: Nancy Pithis, a member of the Fisher community, inspires me. She shared her career journey and the obstacles she faced, which resonated deeply. Remi Bader and Dana Rose also inspire me because they are unapologetically themselves. They show their confidence on social media and share their raw emotional states. This shows their audience that it's okay to not be okay. I choose to fill my feed with people who aren't afraid to show who they really are as well as their struggles.

Ashley: Nephthalie Larame, a former faculty member, is a role model for me. Coming from a similar background as an immigrant and BPS graduate, she embodies the power of hard work and dedication.

How can interested students join the club?

Ashley: You can email us directly at kconrado@fisher.edu or abaez02@fisher.edu. Or connect with Kylie and Ashley on their Instagram.

Thank you, Ashley and Kylie, for your incredible work in empowering women at Fisher College

Happy International Women's Day!
