Meet Elsie Bailey, a freshman at Fisher College, who was raised in Summerville, South Carolina, and has now embraced the busy city life of Boston. During her time at Fisher College, Elsie has actively expanded her resume by taking on various roles. Notably, she serves as the CounterStrike Manager for the Fisher Esports Program and has become a valuable member of the Marcom department, seizing opportunities to diversify her skills across different areas.
When choosing a college for Elsie it was not just the education. It is also a personal exploration beyond her hometown. For Elsie when she found Fisher College it checked off every mark on her list. "For me, academics is where I thrive. I knew Massachusetts was a state known for its quality education, and I wanted to see it somewhere outside of my hometown. Fisher College was located in the beautiful back bay, and with my best friend attending school only a 15-minute walk away, I knew Fisher was where I wanted to be. " Says Elsie.
Elsie's greatest inspiration comes from her mother, a single parent who went back to school and paved the way for her daughter's success. Their bond and her mother's unwavering support are the driving forces behind Elsie's ambitions. Elsie also speaks on the difference between South Carolina and Boston.
“It’s not small enough where everybody knows everybody, but it’s highly likely you’ll see some familiar faces in the town centers,” she said. “Neighbors bringing leftovers and the familiarity of faces in town centers created a sense of community that I carry with me today," Elsie recalls.
However, since coming to Fisher College, Elsie has been making significant. This spring semester she recently became the manager for our Counter-Strike 2 Varsity team. In this role, she adeptly manages practice schedules, coordinates game schedules, and contributes to the success of tournaments. This dual commitment reflects her commitment to gaining diverse experiences within the college environment, showcasing not only her passion but also her dedication to exploring varied interests. Despite being a newcomer, Elsie's vibrant energy and dedication set her apart, making a lasting impact in both marketing and Esports.
When being asked how being a part of the Esports program has been she says, “There is nothing like the Esports program. It is truly a one-of-a-kind experience to meet people from all over the world and bond over a common interest. I’m really looking forward to working with my friends and being able to contribute to the program in a way that’s much better than my Overwatch skills. I hope to learn the ropes of management in a practical and hands-on setting with people who I know will help me along the way. "
In addition to her involvement in Esports, Elsie has recently become a valuable member of our Marcom department on campus, actively engaging in hands-on content creation and learning from seasoned professionals. Expressing her enthusiasm, she shares, "Similarly, to esports management, I’m excited to work with professionals to gain hands-on experience in multiple areas of marketing. I’ve worked in social media extensively, and I look forward to broadening my skillset alongside helpful mentors.”
Elsie Bailey's college journey has been marked by a diverse range of experiences, from honing her public speaking skills in Professor Denney's Public Speaking class to actively participating in both Esports and the Marcom department. Her valuable advice to fellow students emphasizes the importance of choosing a college based on personal preference rather than societal expectations. Looking ahead, Elsie envisions a career in branding video games, particularly within the realm of entertainment, leveraging her graphic design strengths and aligning with her familiarity and passion for related topics. With a commitment to continuous learning and practical experiences, Elsie is poised to make a meaningful impact in her chosen field.
