Camryn Willis: Softball Player and Communication and Media Studies Transfer Student

  • Fisher Friday

Meet Camryn Willis, a Fisher College softball player from Foxborough, MA. She transferred to Fisher in 2022 and is currently studying communication and media studies with a concentration in public relations and is also minoring in sports management.

Camryn's journey to Fisher began when she learned her old softball coach from her club softball days was now coaching at Fisher College. She was drawn by her desire to have a better opportunity to play in different positions, grow as a player and person, and play with her younger sister at the college level. "I also was able to come and play with my younger sister which has always been amazing to play at a college level with her."

Since becoming a student at Fisher, Camryn has discovered her favorite spots around Boston. She reflects on her decision to transfer, stating that Fisher fit what she was looking for in a school. She enjoys the small classroom sizes and the opportunity to connect with professors and students in the Fisher community.

Being on the Fisher College Softball team feels like home to Camryn. Despite initial struggles with her passion for the sport at her former college, she found a supportive community within the team at Fisher. "The team is extremely welcoming and always encouraging," she shares. "Everyone wants what’s best for each other. You never feel like you’re alone. You always have someone pushing you to be the best you can be on and off the field."

Last season, Camryn faced a season-ending ankle injury but remained committed to supporting her teammates and promoting Fisher Softball. Balancing being a student-athlete and the team's content creator posed challenges, but Camryn found success by taking what she learned from her courses to create engaging content for the team's social media pages.

Since transferring, Camryn has developed strong relationships with her professors, enhancing her academic journey. She has also embraced the opportunities to immerse herself in Boston's offerings, like enjoying the convenience of living on campus and being within walking distance from Fenway Park.

Outside of Fisher College, Camryn maintains a balanced lifestyle, engaging in various activities such as gym workouts, line dancing with friends, and spending quality time with family. She also contributes to her community by working as a teacher at a daycare in her hometown.

Camryn offers valuable advice for aspiring collegiate athletes, encouraging them to start their recruiting process early and utilize all available resources to achieve their goals. "Start looking at potential schools as soon as you start high school and make a list of the ones that catch your eyes the most. Start your recruiting video as soon as you can and use all your resources from friends in college to current coaches to help you."
