Information Regarding Presidential Executive Order on Immigration Update on the Executive Order

Dear Fisher College Community,

Fisher College recognizes that the change in the United States’ federal administration may raise many questions and concerns for our students. The transition to a new administration brings with it changes in leadership within government departments and agencies, and the possibility for changes in policy or regulations.

On January 27, 2017, President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order affecting travel to the United States. On June 29, 2017 the Supreme Court of the United States made a ruling regarding the Executive Order Travel Ban. According to the Court, any person from one of the following countries, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Iran, Syria or Sudan, who can show a “Bona Fide relationship” with a close family member or U.S Entity, may seek entry into the United States. The Court specifically stated that students who have been admitted to a U.S. college would possess that relationship. We interpret this to mean that those students, who are citizens of these six countries and who have already been studying in the United States would still be able to travel to the U.S. and/or apply for student visas. As has always been the situation, there is no guarantee of visa issuance or “risk free” travel. We encourage any Fisher student, family member, faculty or staff to contact Fisher’s Center for International Programs and Services (CIPS) with questions.
