Applied Artificial Intelligence Concentration

About the Applied Artificial Intelligence  Concentration

The Applied AI concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in artificial intelligence (AI) and its real-world applications. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, students will gain expertise in key AI technologies, including transformers and Large Language Models (LLMs), as well as delve into the growing field of generative AI.

Students will also develop a strong understanding of predictive modeling techniques, enabling them to analyze and interpret complex data through advanced predictive analytics. In addition, the curriculum covers crucial AI concepts such as optimization techniques, evolutionary computation, surrogate modeling, and agent-based systems, all of which empower students to create AI-driven solutions that enhance business decision-making (Prescriptive AI).

Practical, project-based learning is a key component of this concentration, where students engage with a variety of hands-on projects.

These include:

  • Prompt engineering
  • Chain-of-thought reasoning
  • Data imputation
  • Regression analysis
  • Neural network confidence estimation
  • Problem framing

By the end of the program, graduates will be equipped with the critical skills needed to harness the power of AI technologies and contribute to the development of innovative, data-driven solutions across industries.

Learning Outcomes

Students in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Applied Artificial Intelligence concentration will have the opportunity to achieve the learning objectives of the BS in Information Technology in addition to the following concentration-specific learning objectives.

  • Apply design and development principles in the construction of AI solutions.
  • Analyze and evaluate complex data using predictive modeling.

Career Track

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program with a concentration in Applied AI will be exceptionally well-prepared for a wide range of careers in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence. They will be equipped to pursue roles such as AI specialists, machine learning engineers, and data scientists, with the skills necessary to drive innovation across diverse industries.
