The Fisher Childcare Apprenticeship Program (FCAP) is a fully-paid apprenticeship that prepares individuals for roles aligned with Massachusetts Early Education and Care (EEC) teacher certifications for careers as Infant/Toddler Teachers and Preschool Teachers.

The program combines paid employment, structured on-the-job learning, Related Technical Instruction (RTI), which includes college credit-bearing coursework.

All RTI instruction is provided by Fisher College as part of an accredited academic pathway.

What FCAP Apprentices Can Expect

Apprentices participate in paid early childhood employment while completing structured training and Fisher College RTI coursework. Participation in both employment and RTI components is required.

Apprenticeship Requirements


College Courses: 3 (9 credits)
On-the-Job Training: 2,000 hours
Career Readiness Course: 15 hours
Typical Time to Completion: ~1 year

FCAP Mentor Responsibilities

Mentors provide day-to-day guidance and ensure apprentices are developing required competencies in the workplace.

  • Model early childhood best practices
  • Provide structured on-the-job training
  • Observe and evaluate skill development
  • Communicate progress with program coordinators
  • Support integration of RTI concepts into practice
