Fisher Hosts Annual Honor Your Veterans Celebration

On November 16, 2012, Fisher hosted its annual Honor Your Veteran's Day celebration, an event that recognizes the service and dedication of US Veterans connected to the Fisher community.

What originally began as a small display in the hallway of Fisher's main campus six years ago has evolved into an all day recognition of the hard work and commitment of veterans. This year's event kicked off with a luncheon, which featured speeches by honored guests Matthew Bonner, Commander of the USS Constitution, Francisco Urena, Commissioner of Veterans Services for the city of Boston, and Coleman Nee, Secretary, Department of Veterans' Services. Jeffrey Dulgarian, the recipient of Fisher's 2011 annual Adopt a Soldier donation drive, came to express his gratitude for the initiative. The college has been collecting donations throughout the fall semester to send to this year's recipients, 1st lieutenant Chris Leonard and 1st lieutenant Elizabeth Connors.

Throughout the day, students, faculty, and staff were invited to take pictures of the historic M3 halftrack army truck parked on Beacon Street. M3 halftracks were widely used during World War II as a communications vehicle.

The event culminated with a community service trip organized by the Office of Spiritual Life and Outreach programs. Representatives from the College cooked and served dinner for homeless veterans at a shelter in Dorchester, MA.
