Meet J Braggs Bachelor's of Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice ‘24

Born and raised in Colorado, J made the decision to move to Boston this past year after completing her associate's degree at Colorado Northwestern Community College. J said she was drawn to Fisher College’s small classes, which better allows students to get the one-on-one help they need, and because she wanted to be part of the culture and community.

When asked why she moved from Colorado to Boston, J explained, “I believe the only way to grow is to step outside your comfort zone. When we are in situations that are safe and unusual, we do not learn or push ourselves. Moving to Boston allowed me to completely step away from everything I have ever known -- and simply thrive and succeed.”

J participates in multiple extracurricular activities on the Fisher campus such as soccer, basketball, and softball. She is also part of the Honors Program and Drama Club, and a Resident Assistant. When asked how she manages the extracurricular activities in her full-time student role, she said, “I plan out my days in order to be as productive as possible on the weekdays. This leaves my weekends open so I can explore the city, go out with friends, or just stay in and cuddle with my cat, Momo, during the weekend.”

Although her days are busy, she says she learned a lot from her extracurricular activities. “The biggest lesson I have learned is that I don't need to be the most skilled or the best player,” she said. “If I am working my hardest and putting in my best effort, I am doing my job.”

When she’s feeling challenged, J said she can always count on her teammates and coaches when she needs motivation and uplifting. “They lift me up when I fall apart and have created a very positive environment.”

Once she graduates, J shares her wish to continue her education and earn a master's degree in forensic psychology -- and follow with a doctorate in clinical psychology. Although that is the plan, she also understands it’s okay to go in a different direction -- wherever the world takes her.

Meet Natalie Huynh - Information Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity ‘24

Starting college during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Natalie, a.k.a. Nat, knew she needed a change of scenery and a new experience as she embarked on her college journey.

Following an offer to be the Valorant team manager with Fisher’s new Esports program, she decided a transfer to Fisher would be the best plan so she could be more involved on campus and participate in extracurricular activities.

Nat shared, “As a team manager for the Valorant team, my responsibilities include registering the players for tournaments/leagues, creating a weekly schedule, booking scrimmages for them, traveling with the team to LANs, and more.”

Nat was raised in the Greater Boston area where her family instilled in her the value of education. She knew she wanted to experience college and living in the city to be surrounded by the many opportunities – and to be close to home.

The Esports facility and its high performing PCs and internet are one of my favorite things at Fisher,” she said, “as well as being able to be on campus with my teams and other students in the program, and having the opportunity to travel to tournaments and represent Fisher with the support of the school, all of which has helped me shape and enjoy my college experience more than ever before.”

As an IT major, Nat enjoys working on programming projects to apply what she learned in class. Natalie’s goal after graduation is to continue working in the Esports Industry, either with management or doing something related to her degree, such as networking or being a hardware technician.
