Martin Smith is a faculty member for the Health Information Programs at Fisher College, joining Fisher in July 2014. Prior to working at Fisher, he was an associate professor in the Health Science Program at Hodges University in Naples, FL. His professional experience includes more than 23 years in the healthcare setting, including serving as a combat medic in the U.S. Army, managing several academic programs, teaching in online programs, and coding at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Tampa, FL. In a separate capacity, he also served in the Metropolitan Police Service in London, England, prior to emigrating to the United States.
Martin is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association, the Florida Health Information Management Association (FHIMA), and the Gulf Coast Health Information Management Association. From 2009-2011, he served as a director on the FHIMA board as one of the directors responsible for legislative and advocacy issues. In 2013, Professor Smith was the proud recipient of the FHIMA Educator award.
