Mr. McKain launched his professional career as College Librarian at Fisher College in 1996, after doing a short stint as a part-time Reference Librarian at Bridgewater State College. As a generalist, he enjoys the opportunity that Fisher affords to track down information on a plethora of topics and to wear many hats. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a minor in English, from The College of Wooster in 1990, he accepted a job as associate teacher of second grade at Wilmington Friends School, at which he also coached middle school and high school sports teams for two years. In 1995, he earned a Master of Education with an emphasis in English and Language Arts from Widener University and, in 1996, was awarded a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. Born and raised in southeastern Connecticut, Mr. McKain graduated from Phillips Academy (Andover). He likes to do research on artists and to keep up with politics and issues of social justice and sustainability. He enjoys playing tennis, ping pong, and basketball. As a lover of words, he also relishes the opportunity to play Scrabble and Boggle with anyone who wants to play. He lives in Scituate, Massachusetts with his wife Amy, son Henry, daughter Lucy Jane, and their black Labrador Tessa.

I come from a family of academicians; my father, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great aunt, and great uncle were all teachers, and my wife works with kindergarteners. Following in their proverbial footsteps, I have found in Fisher College a place at which I can not only carry on the tradition of teaching, but also work with and learn from students from myriad backgrounds and experiences. I enjoy helping students, regardless of their prior educational preparation, and I know that they are grateful for the assistance that I provide.
