Program Mission

The Medical Assistant program at Fisher College prepares students with the administrative and clinical knowledge and skills necessary to assume responsibilities in the modern hospital or medical office. Students participate in a clinical internship within the program, thus gaining valuable first-hand experience for the career that lies ahead.  

Program Learning Outcomes

This program will provide students with the opportunity to develop the following competencies:
  • Demonstrate general patient care competencies consistent with certification standards of the profession
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients and members of the health care team to ensure safe and effective care
  • Demonstrate required office administration skills to ensure effective and efficient operations in the medical office
  • Discuss ethical, legal, and regulatory standards of practice and their effect on care of the patient
  • Employ standards of practice related to diagnostic procedures such as EKGs and phlebotomies as well as laboratory samples
  • Utilize the competencies and abilities acquired in the select courses of the associate degree curriculum to enhance personal and professional growth
