Health Insurance

Massachusetts law requires that all college students in our state have health insurance with some minimum standards in place, such as both in-patient and out-patient care with modest deductibles or co-pays, surgical coverage, mental health and substance abuse coverage and ambulance service to an ER. This applies to students who are taking nine or more credit hours per semester. Options include private health insurance that is the equivalent of the State-mandated package or the Fisher College health Insurance plan, which also meets state requirements.

The basic plan will cover most of the costs associated with care outside the student health office. (Note: there is never any charge for appointments or visits to the Student Health Office.) There are many tests that may be performed outside the Health Office for which health insurance is a necessity. The insurance policy does not pay for immunizations.

Fisher College cannot accept the following types of policies:

  1. Foreign health plans
  2. Out-of-state HMOs
  3. Hospital-based "Free Care" plans

MassHealth enrollees are dropped from MassHealth on their 19th birthdays. The ability to continue (be recertified) may depend on federally-defined disability status, having a minor dependent child and some other conditions. As a matter of policy, Fisher College enrolls all incoming students in our College Health Plan just before the academic semester begins. Each questionable insurance plan is addressed on an individual basis. The main enrollment period is just prior to the August start of school. There is an additional enrollment period in January for new students entering in January.

All students are asked to submit copies of their Health Insurance ID card (both sides) prior to arriving on campus. A Student should know the name of his/her insurance plan and how to contact it.

A copy of the Health insurance plan waiver may be downloaded from this site. You may print out a copy of this download but must submit the completed hard copy form, along with a copy of your Health Insurance ID card.
