Department of Public Safety and Campus Police
MISSION STATEMENT
The Fisher College Department of Public Safety & Campus Police is committed
to enhancing the quality of life of the College community. The College views
public safety as an important part of the educational process and one that
requires the collaborative effort of everyone at Fisher College. The Department
operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide for the security and
protection of students, employees and visitors in and around the campus.
The College is required by law to post The Clery Act (pdf), which reports criminal statistics for the campus and surrounding communities.
PUBLIC SAFETY & LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING
All Police and Security Officers are trained in CPR/First Aid. All Police
Officers have specialized training at various local, state and/or federal
law enforcement academies. Security Officers receive basic training in
law enforcement procedures. Both Police and Security Officers are required
to attend in-service training programs throughout the year.
POLICE & SECURITY PATROLS
All Police and Security Officers patrol the campus buildings, grounds, and
parking areas. They look for any public safety issues such as defective
lighting, inoperative doors and locks, broken steps or handrails, open
or broken windows, and any other condition that may pose a hazard. Officers
also investigate any suspicious activities and write Incident Reports.
PUBLIC SAFETY AWARENESS
Students and staff are instructed in crime prevention periodically throughout
the academic year, and Campus Police & Security distributes crime prevention
material on a regular basis. Additional information is published annually
in the Fisher College Student Handbook and Fisher College Catalogue.
All College community members are reminded that individual safety and crime prevention starts with an informed and educated person remaining alert to potential danger, and taking the necessary steps to minimize that danger.
The Fisher College Department of Public Safety & Campus Police believes strongly in crime prevention as the best approach to public safety. A primary method for accomplishing this goal is the department's training programs. These programs are based upon the concept of eliminating or minimizing criminal opportunities, whenever possible, and encouraging students and employees to be responsible for their own safety & security and the security of others.
LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY
The Chief of Campus Police leads the Fisher College Department of Public
Safety & Campus Police. The Chief manages all operations and supervises
the full-time and part-time officers. Police and Security Officers are

local and state laws, patrol campus buildings and grounds; respond to medical
and fire emergencies; investigate incidents; and facilitate the response
of emergency services as required. All officers receive training in various
aspects of public safety and emergency medical response. Campus Police

General Law, Chapter 37. Campus Police also derive legal authority from
Chapter 22c, section 63. This statute provides officers with special State
Police powers.
