Technology Questions & Answers
How do online courses work?
Online courses at Fisher College are
held completely online through Blackboard®, our online learning management
system. As a student, you access
and complete all your work in an online setting whenever and wherever
it is most convenient for you.
Is prior computer experience necessary to enroll in an online course?
Yes. A working knowledge of computers and web applications
is necessary to enroll in an online class. Online students should:
- Know the basics of computer operation and software installation.
- Have a computer with Internet access available for use.*
- Know how to use a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape,
Safari) to access the Internet.
- Use search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) to find content
on the Internet.
- Know how to use e-mail applications to send and receive messages, send
and download attachments, etc.
- Be familiar with word processing software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Feel comfortable participating in online chats and discussions.
- Feel comfortable using new technologies when necessary.
*If your computer breaks or your Internet connectivity is disrupted in
a course, it is up to you to access another computer to complete your
work.
It is not an excuse to drop your course and get a refund. Your courses
are totally online, and you may enter and do your work on ANY computer
that is
connected to the web. In an emergency, you may use a local library, a friend's
computer or an available computer at Fisher College or another educational
institution.

or Windows XP Professional
- Macintosh: OS System 9.2 or better
Minimum Configuration:
- 256 MB of RAM

If you use an AOL connection, follow the procedure below to access Blackboard®:
- Connect to the Internet with your AOL connection.
- Minimize your AOL web browser.
- Open up one of the suggested browsers (IE, Firefox, etc.).
- A standard word-processing
package such as Microsoft Word is required so you can prepare

your instructor or classmates, it is required that
you have current anti-virus software installed
on your computer.
- In addition, students may be required
to use course-specific software packages. Check the course
description and syllabus
for special software requirements.
