Housing Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply or reapply for on-campus housing?
Housing is given on a first-come, first-served basis. It is necessary to submit a Housing Agreement & Preference Form along with a deposit to reserve your spot on campus. Housing assignment priorities are based on the date of deposit . Due to the demand for on-campus housing and limited amount of space available, the College is unable to guarantee housing for all students. Early applications are strongly encouraged. A completed Housing Agreement, signed by the student, indicates acceptance of the terms and conditions outlined in the Housing Agreement. Please be aware that the agreement is for the full academic year, including both fall and spring semesters and that assignment to a specific building and type of room cannot be guaranteed. Can we tour the Residence Halls?
Campus tours include a residence hall room and are run daily through the Admissions office. To schedule a campus tour contact the Admissions office at 617-236-8818.

Why am I required to pay the $500.00 deposit?
The prepayment fee denotes the student's investment in an assignment based on the terms of the license agreement. The $500.00 deposit is refundable if the student returns their room key and no damage is assessed to the room at the time of checkout.

Do I have to pay $500 even though I won't be attending Fisher during the Spring term?
All applications are for the academic year which includes both fall and spring terms, so you do have to pay the $500 deposit. Those students who are not returning as a Fisher student for the spring term may notify the Housing department in writing that they will not be returning as a student. Once the students room is cleared and the Registrar completes verification that the student is not enrolled for the upcoming semester the deposit will be refunded.

If I cancel my housing, do I get my money back?
Deposits are refundable prior to the first day of the check-in period according to the refund schedule.

Can I make changes to my Housing agreement/preference form once I've sent it in?
Requests for changes in application information may be submitted in writing to Director of Housing and Residential Life, Fisher College, 118 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02116. Please include your full name and contact information on the request.

Are freshman required to live on campus?
Currently, Fisher College does not require any student to live on campus. However, once the student makes application for housing, they will be bound by the terms of the housing agreement, including payment for both the fall and spring semesters.

When am I required to pay my housing fees?
The deposit is due at the time application is made. Housing fees are due and payable during the fee payment period at the beginning of the specific term.

When will I get my room assignment?
Room assignments are made during the months of July and August for the fall term, December for the spring term, and April and May for the summer terms. As soon as assignments are made a letter will be sent to you with your assignment information

When can I check into my room?
Specific check-in information will be sent along with your assignment information. Checking in prior to the posted check-in dates/times is strongly discouraged and in many cases will be denied due to the lack of available space and staffing prior to the posted check-in times.

If I don't like my room assignment, can I cancel my Housing agreement?
License agreements are for the full academic year which includes both fall and spring terms. You can only cancel your room assignment prior to the move in date. To cancel your housing assignment you must send your request in writing to: Director of Housing and Residential Life, Fisher College, 118 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02116. Please include your full name, contact information and reason for the cancellation request.

Can I get a private room?
Private rooms are available at an additional cost and are limited in availability. If you are interested in being placed on a waiting list for a private room please contact the Housing office at 617-236-8828.

Does Fisher College offer substance free housing?
Yes, all housing on campus is substance free. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on campus. Smoking and the use of tobacco products are permitted in designated outdoor locations only.

What do I do if I have a maintenance-type problem with my room?
Report your problem to the maintenance office located off the mall area near the entrance to building 108. You can fill out a maintenance request form and place it on the board to be completed. If it is an emergency maintenance situation or after hours please contact campus police at 617-236-8880.

Do I have to take classes to live on campus during the summer?
To reside on campus during the summer you must be enrolled in class for the duration of your stay.

Can I bring a computer with me?
Students may bring their computers with them if they like. All residence halls have network connections available in each room, so students living there can explore the Internet from the comforts of home. The use of antivirus software is required and the IT department will inspect your computer before it can be hooked up to the network. If you don't have a computer, there are computer labs located throughout campus which provide students access to the Internet, e-mail, printing, and various software packages to assist students with classwork.

If my personal belongings are damaged or stolen, does the College cover my losses?
No. Fisher College assumes no responsibility for the theft, destruction or loss of money, valuables or other personal property belonging to or in the custody of the student. Each student is strongly encouraged to carry personal property insurance. Many dependent students may find that they are covered under their parents' homeowners policies; please confirm your coverage with your personal agent.
