STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
As President McGovern said in his inaugural address, "The dream
of enabling any and every student to improve his or her life inspires
the College to this day. It is vision - and our faith in our skill
at providing opportunity - that will sustain this mission into the
next century." Through several programs and initiatives, Fisher
College remains focused on enhancing its reputation as a teaching-first,
student-centered institution.
Scholarships
In addition to its generous Fisher
Trustee Scholarships, Fisher College
has secured funding from both corporate philanthropies and family
foundations who share our belief that access to higher education
is fundamental to personal and professional development. In the past
two years alone, 17 day and continuing education students received
scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to be used towards tuition
and other educational costs. You too can pursue scholarship opportunities
by visiting Resource Links or scheduling a meeting with the Office
of Institutional Advancement.
The Common Experience
Fisher College aims to engage and empower its students by preparing
them for the transition to higher education. The
Common Experience, also
known as the first-year experience, acculturates students to college
by creating a wider and more supportive learning environment. Academic
Affairs and Student Life are integrated, leading to deeper connections
to the College. The program features semester-long, credit-bearing seminars
on intellectual and professional aspirations, a speaker series/community
theme, upperclassmen Student Mentors, and skills sessions.
College 101
This partnership between Jobs for the Future, Brook Farm Business & Service
Career Academy (West Roxbury, Massachusetts), and Fisher College infuses "persistence
attributes" into college-level programs for high school students.
This innovative model is being touted across the Boston Public School system
as a way to prepare and inspire students for the challenges and opportunities
of higher education. Just as important, College 101 sharpens pedagogical
delivery, thereby ensuring that Fisher professors understand incoming students
and are prepared to enable them for collegiate success.
Alumni Affairs
As the enabler of alumni activities, the Office of Institutional
Advancement considers current students alumni-in-training. The
Annual Fund Phone-a-thon and Senior Class Gift are coordinated with
the Student Government Association (SGA). Officers of the SGA also
sit on the Alumni Board to ensure that the Alumni Association can meet
its pledge of supporting current students. These experiences deepen students'
connections and loyalty to Fisher.
