Tips For Completing The FAFSA
Assemble forms needed to complete FASA. You'll
need the following for both you and your parent (if dependent) to fill out
the form:
- Social Security number and drivers license
- Current bank statements
- Current mortgage and investment records (if any)
- Alien registration card (if not U.S. citizen)
- 2006 student and parent federal tax returns
- 2006 W2 forms and other record of money earned
- 2006 untaxed income and records
Visit the "FAFSA on the Web" Web site and
print a "Worksheet (opens

on the Web worksheets can also be picked up at the Financial Aid Office.
Use it as a guide before answering online.
Do not enter online answers directly from the paper FAFSA! FAFSA
on the Web and paper FAFSA questions are in a different order!
- Read the instructions. At first glance, the FAFSA form can appear confusing
and complicated. In actuality, the form is easy to fill out. The questions
are straightforward, and the instructions make specific references to
each question.
- Sign the form. If you are filing the paper FAFSA, make
sure you (and
at least one parent if dependent student and spouse if married) sign
the form before submitting it online or putting it in the mail. Failing
to
do so delays the process, as your FAFSA is not considered complete without
all
necessary signatures.
- Use estimated figures for the most recently completed
tax year. If you are completing the FAFSA prior to the filing of your
current federal tax
return, you may use estimated figures. Review your W-2 and other tax
documents; or if your current income was relatively the same as your
prior year income,
you can use those figures. You can easily update the information after
you have had the opportunity to file your tax return. Do not wait until
you have
filed your current year taxes to file the FAFSA and risk missing the
March 1st priority filing deadline.
- Additional information and answers
to frequently asked questions can be found on the FAFSA Web site (opens
