Boston, MA - Fisher College junior Spencer Hermann, a 6’4” left-handed pitcher out of Jacksonville, FL, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners this past weekend in the 36th round of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft.

Hermann is a big, hard-throwing lefty from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL; Hermann transferred to Fisher from the University of North Florida. His fastball can hit 93 mph and his has curveball is similar to L.A. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, with a 12-6 drop. He was 3-1 this past season with a 2.10 ERA in 30.0 innings. Hermann helped the Falcons to a 37-17 record and a fourth place finish in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.).

“We are all happy for Spencer,” Dulin said. “He left a [NCAA] D1 program and came up here to get this opportunity and to get a ‘Boston’ education. Through hard work and dedication he thrived in the classroom and got himself drafted. This is a great moment for Spencer, the baseball program, and the college. We wish him the best of luck in whatever decision he makes, I know he will represent Fisher College well.”

Fisher now has had three players drafted by MLB teams in the last four years. Mike Hashem was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2011; Chris O’Hare was selected in 2013 by the Philadelphia Phillies.

"Fisher was a blessing for me,” Hermann said. “It helped me continue my dream that I have been dreaming about since I was little. I was given a chance to play in front of scouts and a chance to continue to play the game I love."
