IS410 History Through Film and Literature

Prerequisite: EN102. In addition, completion of at least one 100- or 200-level literature course is recommended

This course uses film and relevant literature as a way to study historical topics. Students will identify which historical facts are accurately represented in the film and in what way the filmmaker took liberties. In cases where a film is based on a historical novel, students will determine the historical accuracies of the novel and in what way, if any, did the film use creativity to tell its story. Students will also explore the extent to which a film or novel are affected by events and conditions contemporary to when it was made.
