CJ210 Law Enforcement in America

This course examines the historical development of policing in the United States and its relationship to the changing roles and strategies of modern policing. The course will address emerging policing practices with a focus on police discretion, police culture, and policies
such as community and problem-oriented policing. By examining controversial issues such as less lethal weapons, use of force and racial profiling, students will gain an understanding of the issues facing law enforcement today. While the course will focus primarily on state and local law enforcement, it will also address the various federal law enforcement agencies and their roles.
