(BOSTON, MA l April 9, 2013) – Fisher College is pleased to announce that The Center for Leadership in Public Service has received a research grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), administered through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security as part of the Commonwealth's 2012 Strategic Plan for Traffic Records Improvements.

Fisher College will utilize this federal grant funding for The Center for Leadership in Public Service’s research project that will contribute to the assessment and improvement of the quality of the Commonwealth’s crash and citation data. Furthermore, the project aims to support data-driven decisions and policies by introducing new and innovative ways to utilize the data and conduct evidence-based analysis. The overall goal of the research project is to provide a better understanding of how this data can be further assessed and utilized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for improved decision and policy making throughout the state.

Additionally, Fisher College hosted the Public Safety Research and Planning Group’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. The meeting was dedicated to Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS). This event is one of a series of Fisher College events and activities that supports their new Transportation Safety Initiative launched in April 2013.

"Fisher College is grateful to be the recipient of such a forward-thinking grant," states Dr. Thomas M. McGovern, President of Fisher College. "We have an incredible group of talented researchers at the Center for Leadership in Public Service, and this grant will assist us in further educating our community and our students about the importance of transportation safety."
