Statement Regarding Monday’s Events at the Boston Marathon
Posted On: 5/21/2013 3:20 PM
It has been a somber day in our Back Bay neighborhood. While we share with you all the concern, sadness, and outrage over the events that occurred at yesterday's Boston Marathon, we are relieved to report that our students and staff are safe and accounted for. Patriot’s Day has always been a date to reflect on the bravery of Bostonians, and we are confident that Fisher College and Greater Boston's resiliency as a community will come to the forefront again as it did 238 years ago.
We appreciate the constant vigilance of the Boston Police and our own Public Safety department, who are working tirelessly to keep our neighborhood safe. There are several street closings that are anticipated to stay closed for the next several days. A map of Boston closings may be viewed on the following page:
http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/10010379967695/back-bay-crime-scene-area-shut-down/.
Beacon Street is currently accessible and the MBTA has reported that normal Green Line, Orange Line, and Red Line service has resumed. Copley Station will continue to be closed today with trains bypassing the station. If anyone has concerns over the street closings or needs assistance, please contact the Office of Public Safety at 617-236-8880.
Yesterday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon were no doubt tragic and frightening for many members of our community. The College Counselors and the Director of Spiritual Life are all available for students and/or staff who wish to speak with someone. The College has planned a
Prayer and Silent Meditation Service
at noon tomorrow, April 17, 2013 in the Trustees Reading Room. In addition, there will be
Interfaith Candlelight Vigil
at 8 pm tonight at the Arlington Street Church (corner of Arlington and Boylston Streets).
Lastly, our health insurance provider (UnitedHealthcare) is offering an emotional support line that will give students access to specially trained mental health specialists. The company’s toll-free help line number, 866-342-6892, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for as long as necessary. The service is free of charge and open to anyone.
