FISHER COLLEGE OPENS NEW MBA AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTER

(October 18, 2017) Boston, MA:  Fisher College, through a generous donation by the McDonnell Family, celebrated the grand opening of the new  McDonnell Family MBA and Entrepreneurship Center on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. 

John McDonnell, Managing Director, International at Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and his wife Cathy, along with Fisher College president Alan Ray, Board of Trustee members, students of the MBA program and Fisher staff and faculty were on hand to celebrate, marking the official opening of the center.

Avellaneda Named to Baker Administration's Latino Advisory Commission

(July 25, 2017) BOSTON, MA: Fisher College’s General Counsel and Vice President of Operations, Carolina Avellaneda, has been named to the Latino Advisory Commission established by Governor Charlie Baker. The Commission will focus on addressing the concerns of the Massachusetts Latino community and promoting economic prosperity and well-being.

“I am humbled and inspired to serve alongside some of the Commonwealth’s most respected Latino leaders as a member of the Latino Advisory Commission,” said Avellaneda. “I am looking forward to collaborating with the Governor and elected leaders to advise on issues that will help the Commonwealth deliver on its commitment to provide opportunities for all citizens. As a member of the Fisher College community I recognize that chief amongst these issues will be access to quality higher education for all.”

Fisher College Names Melanie Appleman Head Women's Volleyball Coach

(July 17, 2017) Boston, MA: Melanie Appleman has been named the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach on July 13, 2017 for the inaugural season of the program at Fisher College.

 

Previously Appleman had been Head Women’s Volleyball coach at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. While at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Coach Appleman led a Female Diversity Pilot Program in order to improve the goals of the Academy’s Five Year Strategic Plan, and managed to increase the number of female athlete inquiries, and the Volleyball prospects, by 800 percent.

Dr. Alan Ray as its ninth president. The search process that led to his selection began when Dr. Thomas McGovern announced his decision to retire as Fisher College’s president after ten distinguished years of service. A search committee that included trustees, alumni/ae, faculty and staff, and advised by the Association of Governing Boards, spearheaded the process.

Lindberg Steps Down, Associate Head Coach Takes on New Role

(May 9, 2017) Boston, MA: Rob Blouin has been named Head Men's Basketball Coach, replacing Head Coach David Lindberg, who is retiring after 12-years at the helm.

“It has been an honor to have spent the last six years coaching with Dave here at Fisher”, said Blouin. “The experience and guidance he has provided during that time has prepared me to confidently take over as head coach, and is something which I’ll be eternally grateful for. Dave has not only been a mentor to me, but a close friend as well. I know I have big shoes to fill, but I look forward to the opportunity to further continue the success we have experienced at Fisher.”

TV News Pioneer Turned Reverend to Serve as Distinguished Speaker

(April 13, 2017) Boston, Ma. – Fisher College is proud to announce today that local television legend and Reverend Liz Walker willRev.Liz Walker serve as distinguished Commencement Speaker at its 113th Commencement Ceremony at the John Hancock Hall in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 a.m.
 
Reverend Walker broke the color barrier in the City of Boston in 1981as the first African-American to co-anchor a television news program. Her esteemed career at WBZ-TV spanned 21 years and served as an inspiration for young journalists not only in New England, but around the country. As a reporter, Reverend Walker’s most memorable assignment was traveling to Africa to cover the Lost Boys of Sudan, and the modern day slave trade. Her eye opening reports earned her the Edward R. Murrow Award for Journalist Excellence.

Fisher College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Lindberg Retires Following 12 Seasons

(March 2, 2017) Fisher College Interim Athletic Director Robert Melaragni has announced Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Lindberg is stepping down, following 12 seasons of leading his team. Coach Lindberg’s decision comes following another successful season for the Falcons, who went 20-9; the team was among those to compete in the AII League Tournament and was eliminated in the quarter final round of play.

FISHER COLLEGE STUDENT VETERAN CENTER NOW OPEN ON CAMPUS

(March 1, 2017) Fisher College is extremely pleased to announce its Student Veteran Center is now open on campus. A ribbon cuttingFisher College Student Veterans Center Ribbon Cutting took place on February 15. Fisher President Tom McGovern was joined by Giselle Sterling, Commissioner of Veterans Services for the City of Boston, Brian Marchand of the Fisher Chapter of Student Veterans of America, and Dean Neil Trotta. The Vet Center was created through a generous grant of $10,000 awarded to Fisher by The Home Depot Foundation and Student Veterans of America (SVA).
